Dr Mahathir discharged from Melbourne hospital
MELBOURNE: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was discharged from Epworth Hospital in Melbourne, Australia at 9am, Tuesday, after being warded on Saturday with a chest infection.
A hospital spokesman said Dr Mahathir left the hospital in good spirits. The former prime minister has moved to a nearby hotel here.
Meanwhile, his special officer Sufi Yusoff, in an e-mail, said the medical team was happy with Dr Mahathir's rate of progress but he would still be under observation for an unspecified period.
"Throughout this period, the medical team will continue to administer antibiotic treatment and physiotherapy," he said.
The discharge from the hospital was also part of the rehabilitation process to speed up Dr Mahathir's rate of recovery, Sufi said.
Dr Mahathir has been in Melbourne, accompanied by his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, since Thursday and had been expected to address a seminar on human development, organised by the Umno Club of Melbourne, at the University of Melbourne on Saturday. - Bernama
